Scotland has unlimited options for walking. There are four designated long-distance routes, and many named trails collected under the banner of Scotland’s Great Trails. The four paths listed here, were named in the foundational legislation. I have also walked the entire east coast of Scotland, from Berwick-upon-Tweed to John o’ Groats.
These trails only scratch the potential of Scotland as a walking destination, where effort and adventure is amply rewarded with some of the most spectacular scenery in the British Isles, if not the world. I thoroughly recommend Walkhighlands website, which has a huge database of spectacular walks.
